The Madison Middle School art curriculum is designed to introduce the young artist to creative experiences in both two and three dimensional activities.
The sixth grade art cruise will focus on the elements of design, followed by exposure to art history as they paint a portrait in the style of Henri Matisse. Their experience will culminate with an adventure into ceramics. All work will be evaluated in a critique setting.
The seventh grade cruise will emphasize color theory. The students will create a color wheel, and learn about how colors combine and interact. They will also paint a still-life, and make a pinch-pot whistle.
The eighth grade cruise will have a three dimensional emphasis as the students work exclusively with clay. Their main project will be the construction of a canopic jar. Critiques will be held to learn to respond to the work created using the elements of design as a basis for comment and discussion.
