6th and 7th grade PE/Health classes are focused on helping students achieve balanced overall health:

  • physical health - engage in lifelong fitness practices, set goals, and learn what it means to be "in the zone".  Students will also focus on health promotion and disease prevention, access and analyze information to enhance personal health.
  • mental/emotional -  changes in appearance, responsibilities, expectations and emotions are all part of adolesence, learn how to adapt to these changes in a healthy way! 
  • social - discussions and activities will be centeread around: ways to handle conflict, being "you", embracing differences, and choosing friends that have similar interests, values and goals.

Must Haves! 

ü  PE UNIFORM.  White PE shirts can be purchased through the office.  An acceptable uniform consists of maroon or black shorts and a white or gray shirt.  Please print your name on the front of the PE shirts.  It is important that you label all attire so it can be returned if lost.  

ü  GYM SHOES.  You will not be allowed to wear flip flops, slip-ons, or dress shoes of any kind.  

ü  DEODORANT.  Enough saidJ

Please bring PE items to school on days that you have class.  Leave these items in your book locker, LOCKED up until class.  PLEASE only bring items necessary for gym to class.

 

Grading Criteria:   

Each day will be worth 10 points (10 points=100% A).

o   Points are earned by changing out into your PE uniform and shoes, giving maximum participation effort and following gym expectations. (SD K-12 Physical Education Standard 4 and 5)

 

There will also be periodic skill performance assessments and or written assessments in addition to daily points. (SD K-12 Physical Education Standards 1, 2, 3).

 

SD K-12 Physical Education Standards

1. The physically literate individual demonstrates proficiency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

2. The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics to enhance movement and performance.

3. The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.​

4. The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self, others, and environment.

5.. The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, employment opportunities, and social interaction.

 

Absent

ü  If you are not present in class due to illness or some other pre arranged absent from the attendance office you are able to make up those daily points by completing a MAKE UP DAY

ü  If you are not present in class due to a school related event (sports, choir, field trips) you will not be deducted points for that day.

 

Cell Phones

ü  Electronic devices are NOT to be used in the Locker Rooms or brought into class.

ü  Locker rooms are a very dangerous place to have your cell phones.  They could be stolen or pictures taken could result in serious problems for you with the intentions they did not mean for the pictures to be used.  It is best/safest for phones to be left in book lockers and locked up. 

 

Class Expectations

·         Whistle = Stop everything, Look at the teacher and Listen for Instruction.

·         Respect Each Other

·         Be Safe…..Each activity/unit will have specific rules.  These are in place to keep everyone safe.

·         Do your Best & Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
